(Cont’d from Avandrya, The Unknown)
The throuveil was just not interesting him to day. The place was never dead or empty, but he was bored. Just business as usual, I hadn’t seen anyone overly suspicious. But then this was a place were the suspicious came to unwind.
Getting up from his seat, and stretching out his wings alittle, Cedric gave the room a final glance, and headed to the bartender, and with a quick massage to Ryuu to get in touch with him, but it was no emergency, and paying his tab, he headed for the door and out of the throuveil and back into the human side of the club.
Walking into the human side of the club. the place was starting to fill up, the music was blaring and the lights where up. He ran a hand thru his blond hair and quickly glancing around, he spotted Kalypsa sitting by herself in her usual spot. Putting a smile on, and walked up to the bar, and grab himself a drink and another round of her usual, and made is way over.

Kalypsa had been nursing her drink and watching the club fill up. Tonight would be a very busy night. That was always good. She had leaned back and closed her eyes allowing the general feel of the crowd wash over her. It was steadily building and that usually led to some sort of out burst at some point in the night. She smiled, it was just a matter of time.
She opened her eyes when she felt some ones eyes on her and leaned forward to see that it was Cedric walking her way, a smile resting upon his lips. She smiled in return. After a night of silence she supposed she could use a little conversation. She smiled wider when she saw he had drinks, knocked hers back, and set the glass on the table.

Seeing her knock back her first drink, brought out a snicker. Setting down her drink in front of her, and seating himself directly across. Cedric had to lean in close to talk over the music.
"Hey Kaly! So whats the day been like? and any trouble so far?"
Clearly bored himself and trying to get her talking. Sometime he felt that she was a tough nut to crack. But she was good at what she did, even if she got into trouble from time to time. But then who didn't around here? It was just the nature of things.

Kalypsa nodded a wordless thank you, when Cedric set her drink down in front of her. She took a drink then set it back down on the table and leaned in to hear what Cedric was saying. She noted that he called her Kaly, not many could get away with that one, but she didn’t mind it from him.
“It has been agonizingly slow. I do believe that if I don’t get some form of entertainment soon I may go catatonic.” She smiled again. “Not that I am hoping for trouble.” She added, her smile turning slightly mischievous. She gave the growing crowd a quick once over to make sure everything was still calm, before returning her attention to him. “The crowd is getting large fast tonight though, there is big over excitement potential, and that always turns into something interesting.” Just as the words passed her lips she heard arguing from the bar, though is was nothing to serious … yet.
“How has your night been thus far? As mind numbing as mine I hope.”

Cedric laughed quietly at her not so subtle hint of mischievousness, he took long sip of his scotch, and leaned back in to talk
"Just as mind numbing! No one has any new information on these hunter rumours that have been going around. I'm suppose to be meeting Ryuu to tell him that I've got nothing new or useful, and he isn't even here! The Mutterficker..." [Motherfucker]
Looking around for a minute and talking not of a couple of raised voices from the bar area, but nothing much else going on.
"So what do you do for fun around here?"
It was a silly question really. Cedric hadn't know Kalypsa as long as he would have liked, but he knew enough about her to know some of her basic interests. Maybe he was looking for trouble to tonight. He just seemed off of his game tonight, and maybe alittle focus is all he needed.

She laughed as well, took another drink and leaned back in her seat. Thinking about what Cedric had just said. The hunter rumors had been making everyone in Avandrya, all the supernatural in fact, a little uneasy. With murders of their kind appearing in many states it was understandable. None had reached the Portland area yet, so she tried not to dwell on it.
“Yeah he went out sometime this morning and hasn’t been back since. He usually doesn’t stay out so long, and definitely didn’t dress for the weather. Something must have come up. But I wouldn’t be worried about it. It’s not in his nature to check in.”
She watched Cedric survey the crowd and wondered what was on his mind. The club had filled up quickly and she could see many demons and their like moving about the crowd as well as the mundane kind. One of the men near the both moved to talk to her but she waved him off before he had a chance.
“Fun?” She laughed. Her kind of fun wasn’t generally the acceptable kind. “Well, while working I through myself into large groups of rioting people… and on my downtime I like making new… friends.” She leaned forward placing her head on one hand and picking up with her drink with the other. “In all honestly I’ve been stuck in the same routine for a while.” She downed the rest of her drink. “Haven’t had a real goodtime in a long time.”

Seeing her simply wave the man away, Kalypsa always did have a way of dealing with people, and the smile spread again across his face.
"Not in a real long time? Oh mein!" [My]
Giving the room a once over again. but still not seeing anything of interest. But then the night was still young, and Kalypsa was right in the fact that usually something always happened.
Cedric leaned in again to talk
"Ok so your on the job, and we are still bored, hows about alittle pool? I haven't played a game since I was last in France! And let me tell you, that was ages ago!"
He sat back to finish his drink, and awaited her answer

She smiled, he knew her weakness.
“I love a good game of pool.”
They stood and moved through the crowd towards the pool tables. In took a good five minutes to work they’re way across the dance floor. The crowd moved like one being undulating in time with the music. She shook her hips back and forth as danced through the crowd. She enjoyed the crush of bodies against hers. She got a few propositions to stay and dance but she brushed them off. When they finally broke the crowd she headed for the first available table. Before remembering she wanted another drink.
“Wait her.” She smiled, tossed him a pool stick, and worked her way over to the bar.
“Bartender!” Kalypsa shouted, smiling, and leaned over the bar. “Can I get cranberry vodka, and another scotch.” She made a little idle conversation before grabbing the drinks and dancing back over to the pool tables.
When she reached Cedric she handed him his drink and let a wide impish grin spread across her face.
“So, you care to make a small wager?”

He followed her thru the dance floor, and he didn't mind the dancing or the music... However he wasn't very trusting of the crushing crowd. He like space to move, and his years of work in the charging masses of armies made it all to uncomfortable for him, and when the first drunk human girl tried to stand in front of him to grab his attention, which was promptly followed up by her drunk boyfriend shoving him... Of course that was being generous to the child. He tried to, but only succeeded in putting his hands on Cedric and pushing himself over.
"Alberner Junge" He muttered to the boy in German. [foolish boy]
A look over to the drunk lady revealed that she was verging on angry that he had just kicked the ass of her boyfriend... "Drunk humans" He told himself, and before the boy on the ground new what had happened, he was up off the ground and standing in front of his lady and, with a nod and a smile and a curt "M'lady" Cedric was off thru the crowds again following his companion. Who was far and away more interesting and anything out on the dance floor.
As Kaly tossed him the stick, and headed for the bar, he daftly caught it and while waiting he absently swung it around himself. It was the correct length for a weapon, but horrible too light... Then noticing a couple of odd looks from some of the humans a couple of tables over, he remembered where he was "You with the humans now you bloody twit! You look like one of those silly nerds!" He chastised himself. Having nothing better to do then look foolish while he waited, he set up the table and awaited Kaly's return.
When she returned and handed him his drink and announced her proposal, he thanked her for the drink, and quickly had a sip before answering her with a smirk and expecting a twist.
"Well you know how I said that I'd not played since France? Well that was when I was a guest of some baron while my company pasted thru on our way back to England... He thought it sporting... So its only been a few hundred years! It's like riding a bike right? So what are the terms?"

She took a drink of her ruby red liquor before setting it on the edge of the pool table. Ah yes, just like riding a bike. She thought and laughed to herself as she weighed each of the pool sticks lining the wall until she found one with the perfect weight and balance.
“Oh, that’s alright. I am sure I’m a little bit rusty myself; it’s been an entire six days since I’ve played. I am very much loosing my touch.” She said with a smile. “As for a wager… for the first game lets start with something small, Loser buys drinks for the rest of the week.”
She leaned over the pool table to grab the triangle, strands of her hair falling down from her bun to frame her face. When she stood back up she let her eyes stray over to the door of the throuveil and momentarily locked gazes with Gray as he entered the mundane, the smile slipped away from her lips for a second as she pondered the man. He never spoke much and she didn’t know much about him. There weren’t a lot of people she didn’t know much about. She let her eyes fallow him for a brief minute, before turning back to Cedric with a grin.
“Do you want to rack, or should I?”

Her smile slipped away, she was quiet, and distracted. It was for a moment, but it was long enough for Cedric…
“I’ll rack! Ladies first” He said with a stone cold face.
His demeanor clearly changed, he tensed up and moved around the table to get a view. Grabbing the triangle absently he was watching the door to the throuveil, and only saw Gray in his guise walking away. Gray… He was known to Cedric, but only really in name. He knew very little of the man, were-wolf clearly… Work for a corporation, or so he thought by the amount of suits. Nothing out of the ordinary there, for a demon that is. But Gray always seemed to know what was going on before it happened. And that bugged Cedric. But as far as his past inquires about him, he was clean. But still he didn’t sit well with Cedric. He just couldn't find anything on that squeaky clean Gray.
And just as quickly as he had glanced over, he was back to his cheery self and finished setting up the rack.
“Is there an order to these balls now? And why are there numbers on them? It’s just putting the ball into the pocket right?”
He had no reservations about who would win… He wasn’t even good 500 years ago! But he wouldn’t go down easy, he thought with a grin. This was just going to be an expensive lesson in pool.

Another dimension fused through into the one World in which Demons and Humans grazed; both separated by a mere door – a veil that shielded mortal eyes from truth. Or as Gray thought a veil that demon's ‘hid’ behind.
The Mundane club seemed so much livelier and definitely more vibrant than the throuveil this evening, which was extremely unusual. The stench of sweat and sex edged abruptly at Gray’s nostrils. Most demons thought of humans as foul cattle or even as superior vermin greedily hugging the world to them. But for the ani-shifter, Gray loved humans; every smell enraptured a short story, every face locked away a guilty pleasure, and every taste blew everything out of proportion. Humans tended to feed off stories and live a life of fantasy. As much as reality hurt, humans coped, struggled and could find something so small and insignificant and turn it into a fireworks display. That was the life Gray wanted to share – a life to share alongside humans…not hidden away in reality, but to really live without so much a care in the world.
Denure wasn’t foolish though, he knew he had to keep his cool and follow the rules; he knew that every corner he turned there would be watchful eyes; and when there is a gaze upon you, you had to be extremely careful, especially if the gaze belonged to someone such as the head of the Protectors of Avandrya…someone being Cedric Von Engel.
Gray hadn’t ever caught him within his sheep’s skin. Usually he hanged about in the throuveil, clearly recognized by his dazzling bright white wings, perhaps that was one of the reasons it didn’t occur to him, that it was Cedric hanging with Kalypsa. It seemed the Angelic demon was in a more fun mood. This eased Gray a lot more. If the Protectors were on good form then so was he.
Gray meandered through the crowd resisting any temptation to mingle with the women and spark off any unnecessary fights with the men. Although he was an Ani-shifter, (not quite a were-creature) he still had the instinct of being territorial - nothing like marking his territory with his own piss, but just being a little more aggressive towards the men than usual.
Tonight he would remain cool and relaxed, do the usual wink at the hotties; play with their heads, lose interest and move onto the next lady. In this club the woman weren’t so eager, (the men too). However, on this side of the world, he was unknown…just another ordinary man according to their mortals eyes. Gray didn’t disown his demon, he loved the fact that he was completely different from all the people; it was just that he felt more relaxed and comfortable in his guise.
For all we know the guise could be the demon, and the demon his guise!
This time Gray was not surrounded by oafs, thugs, sex addicts and all sorts of mad cases. No this time he was alone, and had to make the effort to get recognized. It almost felt like a whole new fresh start.
Eventually he had made it to the bar, in which he settled upon one of the stools. He had a good view of the pool table where the red-beauty and her winged guardian friend played, and a good view of the big dance floor.
The atmosphere was starting to get heavier throughout the night, making it easier for Gray’s senses to focus better. The human’s movements were slower and more distinguished. But the demons that did come through were faster harder to watch…excluding Kalypsa and Cedric.
Gray was fascinated by Kalypsa; her vigorous red lips motioned her secretive thoughts, as she concentrated on the game ahead of her. It was almost addictively poisoning to watch her body slowly highlight every maneuver she performed. Gray would slyly pass over a glimpse never daring himself to touch those eyes of hers. Although the other demons moved faster, Kalypsa and Cedric didn’t, as if they wanted to show off to the others that they were the fire power, and were not to be messed with.
It was a good night and a good night called for a round of drinks. Gray motioned the bar tender over and ordered a snakebite whiskey for himself, and then asked for a scotch and a cranberry vodka to be passed over to Cedric and Kalypsa.
At that moment Gray expressed a flirtatious smile over to Kalypsa, and winked mannishly at Cedric before the barmaid even got round to them. Suddenly a hard yet welcoming vibration erupted inside one of Gray’s suit pockets…his mobile phone was alerting him to a call…
If the two were to look up again, they would notice Gray gone

Having sunk only 2 balls, Cedric sat back to watch Kaly lay a beating on him. He had gift wrapped a couple of shots for her, and was now paying for it. Leaning up against the table and watching the lesson in progress is when the drinks showed up. A quizzical look to the waitress is all that was needed and she pointed out the man sitting a bar, Gray Denure.
Gone was the grin, and the emotion drained from his face again. The stone cold soldier was there again. the drink stood untouched on the table, and would remain that way. Never letting his eyes leave Denure with a gaze that would have flash frozen a bonfire, Cedric watched as he flash a smile to Kalypsa, and a wink to him... To taunt him.
If one could see beneath the guise, they would have seen those glowing eyes flash dangerously! During his time in Canada, he learned an old saying.. Its never safe to poke a bear. What did he know? He wasn't going to let him leave... He'd make him talk!
But as he took but a single step towards the bar, and group of young people moved in front and blocked his view and when they had moved, so had Denure. Thru clenched teeth Cedric let lose a low growl.

Kalypsa was quickly caught up in the game. She had purposely missed the first shot and when Cedric set one up for her shot took it. And another. And another. The smile on her lips was an easy one. She really was enjoying herself, and though she was defeating him miserably, Cedric seemed to be enjoying himself as well.
She could feel Grey’s eyes on her from the seat he had taken at the bar. She’d be lying if she said some of the slow seductive moves across the table weren’t for his benefit. Though some were aimed at Cedric as well. She was horrible when it came to male attention, not that she was really ever lacking it.
She heard Cedric speaking to a waitress who’d come from the direction of the bar, but hadn’t looked up. She was damn near close to winning this game. She pulled back for her shot, aimed, and hit the green while completely missing both the cue ball, and her intended shot. She stood her eyes trained on Cedric.
His demeanor had completely changed and his emotions had hit her like a slap across the face. She followed his now cold eyes to the bar where Gray sat. He flashed her a smile, which she weakly returned, and winked at Cedric, who started to the bar. He was immediately blocked by a group of young humans who all started as a low growl escaped his lips, and moved along quickly. She looked to the bar again and saw that Gray had disappeared.
She quickly fell into her strictly business attitude and let her eyes quickly scan the crowd, moving from face to face until she had found his. He was headed for the door. She took one last look at Cedric before deciding upon her actions. He was the head Protector, and it looked like he most definitely wanted to talk to the man. That was enough to convince her, she had said she wanted some entertainment tonight.
She looked toward the exit of Avandrya and found the perfect two people positioned a couple paces in front of the door. She raised her hand as if to wave to them and immediately their voices rose in a loud and very noticeable argument. The crowd around them began to thicken as people moved into get a better view of what could potentially turn into violence, and within seconds the exit out of the club was blocked. The fight was close enough to the door that the bouncers stationed there could take care of it, but the crowd would take longer to dissipate. She smiled to herself at just how damn good she was.

The beat of the music throbbed through the floor-boards unconsciously changing the mood of the crowd. A sudden change of rhythm caused an eerie shift, as if the bulk of humans started to patch up tightly together. Whilst clutching his mobile to his left ear, Gray was finding it hard to sail through. With each step he attempted to take, he had to force people out of the way, by using his right arm as some sort of sweeping brush.
Unfortunately this just made things worse, as some women saw this as a gesture. Denure found himself having to turn away the ladies by keeping them at arms length and signaling with a ‘sorry but I can’t’ notion. Now was no longer the time or place in which to mingle with people.
Like a salmon swimming against the current Gray had to force his way towards the exit, but was suddenly stopped by a couple of people rushing out in front of him pushing by and breaching out into an argument. The force of their ignorance caused Gray to drop his mobile onto the floor into a sea of sweaty legs and sticky bodies. A sudden snarl rattled through his throat as his dexterous cheekiness vanished, and replaced by an obnoxious rage which bubbled beneath the surface of his guise.
The exit was immediately blocked by bouncers who had seen the disorder about to flourish further, and tried to cool things down. Gray whirled round bending right down to the floor and scuttled about trying not to panic so much. The couple continued to argue furiously at one another. Gray couldn’t understand why the club suddenly turned into a collision of clumsy meat joints rubbing each other over with their sagging flesh.
Gray’s mood turned terribly even though he had finally found his mobile (still in tack, it didn’t however, erase his anger), as he came back to the couple, and looked the guy straight into the eyes. He was good enough not to flash his real bronze orbs at him, but the disgust and annoyance in his eyes was more than enough to have the argument turn back onto Gray.
The male was so caught up in the drunken moment of the argument that he accused Gray of sleeping with his woman. The ani-shifter didn’t have time for any of this, and shrugged his shoulders into a complete disagreement. He shone a ‘sneer’ towards the woman in disbelief of the stupidity of the two of them. It was a possibility that he may have slept with her in the long past, but at this precise moment he didn’t want to recall her face.
Her male partner would not let any of this by. Gray noticed a huge bouncer coming towards them, but his attention was suddenly grasped back by the male’s grubby hands grabbing onto his gorgeously tailored suit threatening him. Denure had really freaked now, so much that his demonic anger flurried out into a fist shape and punched the male human right between the eyes.
It was rather poetic to see him fall flat onto the floor after flying back through some people, that it made Gray laugh. The smirk was immediately wiped off his face as his gaze was met by the bouncer’s. Luckily for him though, the high crowd engulfed the area in which the human lay and blocked the bouncer off from Gray.
He sprung back to attention and scurried off past the crowd. He had hoped to have been let back through into the Throuveil, but one of the protectors refused to let him by. Gray knew the guardian…not well but they were connected through business. So no unwanted punches were thrown between these two…besides Gray wouldn’t dare hit a protector, he didn’t want to be banished from the club nor beaten to death. The protector escorted Gray out the club and into one of the private meeting rooms, where he allowed the Ani-shifter to cool off.
‘I’m just bringing you in here, so that git don’t come looking for ya’ explained the protector ‘your lucky it’s me tonight!’
Gray leant over himself with his hands resting on his knees as if to catch his breath. He nodded a subtle thank you towards the guard as he headed back into the crowd. Gray allowed himself a moment’s breather before he finally answered the phone.
‘I’m listening’…
