Fallon sat bundled up on the cold wooden bench staring out at brown water that was the Willamette River. She thought idly about the pollution that was contained in that water and shook her head. Her thoughts turned quickly, as her mind was wont to do, back to the night before.
She had kissed him and more than once but it always seemed as if he was as wooden as the bench she sat upon. Or could she have likened him to being as cold as the snow that she had wiped from the bench before sitting on it. Hell, he was just a snow covered bench! Giggling to herself, she wondered what it would be like if she really did kiss the snow covered bench.
The fact that Rayik had stayed in her thoughts was odd to her. Usually the people that she met would enter her thoughts and then leave when she left their company. Sure, she would have a passing thought about a person but she had even dreamed about the demon when she slept.
It was hard to get ready for a day of play when you were thinking about impressing the person you were going to be playing with. At least that was how Fallon felt as she got ready... That was until she told herself to get a grip and did the only respectable thing she could do. And that was to dress modestly.
With her red hair, guise form of course, pulled up in a loose pony tail and wearing only some mascara, blush and lip gloss, she had looked herself in the mirror and wondered how at odds he would find her today as compared to the night before when she was made up like a two dollar whore. Then, she had to give herself credit she looked at least like a two hundred dollar whore. High class and all.
Bringing herself back to the present, she pulled down her thick dark brown gloves and pulled up her matching faux fur winter coat sleeve up to peek at her wrist watch. She still had fifteen minutes before he was destined to show but at least she was warm.
Fallon looked down at the seat next to her and smiled widely at the cute little cream colored duffel bag that she had brought with her. She even patted the bag with pleasure.
“Today is going to be great, I just know it,” she stated to the river. “It's going to be perfect... As soon as he gets here.”

“Good!” Rayik called as he battered his Bo staff against his opponent's. Quickly recovering from the deflection he twirled low and to his left, feinting a blow against the student's foot, but quickly spinning back to the right and coming straight up under the young woman's chin.
She almost didn't see it coming, but caught the ruse at the last second, just enough to jump straight back and recover her footing. She was drenched in sweat, and she noticed Rayik hadn't even lost his breath. Ordinarily that wouldn't be strange but this spar was going on an hour already.
Rayik came at her fast with a series of quick hits from alternating ends of the staff, causing her to strain to block them all. He worked his attacks higher and higher, getting above her defenses because of their almost foot and a half height difference.
She thought she actually had him now. If she could get him to keep going up, she could come back down faster than he could. Her plan would have been flawless....had Rayik's knee not come up and just landed square in her sternum. She immediately lost her breath and fell to the floor.
Rayik helped her up and gave some words of wisdom. He glanced over at the clock and OH SHIT! He was going to be late to meet Fallon! He bowed to the student and quickly took off to go shower and change. He bolted out the door while practically still putting his pants on. He got about halfway down the block and ran back. Barefoot probably wasn't the best choice. Fucking shoes. This was not shaping up well so far.
He put his shoes on and stopped for a moment, just to collect himself, remembering the words of one of his teachers, “Some times the best thing to do when in a hurry is to slow down.” He began walking towards the park, wearing a tight t-shirt underneath a very light sweater; Rayik did well in the cold. His pants were tight, dark blue jeans and he forgot socks, again. That was always common. He hated socks.
When he got to the park meeting place he looked around, almost not noticing her because of that enormous coat. “Maybe she's part Inuit,” he thought to himself. He strode over casually and confidently, smiling to the sitting fur creature in front of him. “We are blessed with fine weather today.” He gave her a smile that actually showed a little teeth, easily being the biggest smile she's seen from him. He took a deep breath and basked in the beauty of the little face, poking out from the big coat, in front of him.

Fallon about jumped out of her skin when Rayik appeared out of no where. She admonished herself for not paying more attention to her surroundings but she let the thought pass as quickly as it came. She was just thrilled to see him, even if a glance at her watch told her that he was a few minutes late.
Hopping up from her seat, she wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed her cold nose against his warm neck. With a giggle, she kissed the spot where her nose had been and then backed up to grab the duffle bag. Her hand reached out and she pulled Rayik along behind her, trudging through the snow, to an open snow covered area.
Once there, Fallon dropped his hand and deftly unzipped the duffle bag. She pulled out the borrowed jacket and threw it over her shoulder at Rayik, not worrying if he would catch it or not. Then, she pulled out a red and white checkered picnic blanket and laid it over the snow.
She sat down then, on the blanket and giggled when she heard the snow crunch under her weight. Her eyes gazed up at Rayik as she began pulling hot containers out of the bag.
“I try to make it a point to do something I’ve never done at least once a week. And, this week has been good, Rayik! Wanna know why?” She didn’t wait for an answer as she continued. “Because I kissed you and I had never done that before and because we’re going to have a snow picnic and I don’t think anyone has ever done that in the history of the world.”
Continuing to pull thermal containers of food out of the duffel, she ended with opening a side pocket to the duffel... It was there that she pulled out a brightly wrapped package, complete with a bow.
“Since we missed Christmas, I thought I would give you an after Christmas gift! I hope you like it.”
A blush colored her cheeks and a smile was plastered to her face as she handed the gift over. But Fallon was starved, having skipped breakfast to do the spur of the moment gift shopping, so she started pouring cups of steaming hot cocoa, bowls of vegetarian chili, placing plates of seasonal fruits and warm garlic bread.
“We need to eat this fast, Rayik. It’s freezing out here and the food will get cold. So sit your ass down and break bread with me,” she said cheerfully. “You can open your present when we’re done eating.”

Rayik caught the jacket easily and started chuckling when he saw what she was doing. This woman was out of her mind. He didn't care, he'd seen stranger people in his day.
He grinned when he saw her pull out the present, but at the same time he felt a twinge of guilt having not gotten her anything. He thanked her for the gift and set it aside as he sat to join her on the blanket for their, so called, “snow picnic.” Rayik was absolutely convinced this was the weirdest stripper in the known universe. That was starting to bother him less and less, it seemed. He enjoyed just seeing her.
He quickly sat down, to start on the food. He sipped the cocoa and tried some of the chili. Not bad at all, but that cocoa could use some Kahlua. Rayik had always been quite fond of drinking. It just seemed to settle things down, and he held his liquor well. Rayik's reactions and reflexes were rarely slowed down when drunk, unless he was REALLY hammered. Letting go of his attachment alcohol for the sake of this meal, he sat up a little straighter and smiled to Fallon again. Must be a new record for smiles a day for him.
“This has been quite lovely, Fallon. Do I have your permission to open the present now? Or are you going to make me wait even longer?” he asked quite sarcastically.

She had sat silent as she was eating all the while staring at her companion. It was nice that he was loosening up a bit, she thought to herself, but the grins weren’t going to cut it. She was on a mission to make him laugh. And after they ate, part two of her plan would be set in motion.
When he asked her about the gift, Fallon had her bowl tipped up to her face and was spooning the dredges of her chili into her mouth. Widening her eyes with her spoon in her smiling mouth she nodded.
Polite enough to swallow her mouthful before speaking, Fallon said, “Of course you can open it now! I just didn’t want your meal to get cold before you had a chance to eat it.”
Plopping a slice of orange in her mouth, Fallon cleansed her palette as she watched him unwrap the gift. She just needed his expression.

Rayik didn't get many gifts. He always had mixed feelings about them. Typically he received gifts that he didn't particularly need or want. Even if he didn't need or want them, it seemed he never stayed in one place long enough to enjoy it. All that being said, Rayik was happy to have this gift from Fallon. He opened it carefully and precisely, being the kind of person who unwraps a gift, not tear it to shreds.
As he peeled away the wrappings, he started to see was it was, and smiled. Rayik was tired of making sushi with the simple things in the dojo. He already knew he was going to donate this to the Aikido dojo he was staying at in Portland. He looked up to her and gave her a rather warm look with a small, but caring smile.
“Thank you, Fallon. Its beautiful. The students at the dojo will really enjoy having this.”
He really did feel bad for not having gotten her anything. He would have to make her something, he decided. Rayik never considered himself artistic, but he loved sculpting. He would carve, cut, smelt, or chisel as best he could for her, he concluded. He would just have to keep it a surprise for now.
“So what do we have next on your agenda? Use the half-frozen water from the river to make a slip and slide on the ice?” he asked with yet another sarcastic grin.

Fallon wasn’t sure what to say as Rayik opened his gift. Her heart broke when she heard him speak of giving it away. It hurt that much more because she had gone home after they were together and spent the rest of her evening dedicated to finding the perfect gift before waking up and dedicating the entire morning to obtaining said gift. She usually didn’t spend so much time on little things like that and now he was just going to toss it away like some second hand garbage.
Behind her guise, Fallon’s eyes flicked from yellow to black in an instant. The smile fell from her face and in its place a mask of indifference appeared in its place. Instead of answering Rayik, she locked her jaw and set a steely gaze upon the object of her disdain... That damned gift. She shook her head then and plastered a phony smile upon her face. She wasn’t going to let Rayik tear her down. She wasn’t going to let anyone tear her down.
Refusing to answer and refusing to look up at him, Fallon tucked a loose strand of hair back into the hood of her coat before busying herself with the clean up. When she had all the belongings back in duffel, save for the blanket, she stood and threw the bag over her shoulder.
“We,” she spat, “have nothing left on the agenda. Throw your gift away as you will but don’t bother with the formalities, Rayik. You obviously could care less about what I had to do to get that done for you in time for our date. I’m leaving now.”
And then, behind her Guise, Fallon’s eyes began to change; this time from the angry black to a mottled brown.

Boy, thought Rayik, that clearly wasn't what she wanted to hear. His expression never shifted and he simply nodded slightly to himself. He had meant what he said, and didn't intend to change or take back what he said. Luckily, Rayik had dealt with this before. Rayik could count...on two hands...how many things he owned. His two swords, his two knives, and about two sets of clothes. Most people didn't know or understand this, and so when he gave away gifts, people tend to get upset.
“I'm not going to stop you if you want to leave, but know that my giving of your gift has nothing to do with you. It has to do with my students at the dojo, and myself. I own nothing. Even these clothes I wear now are borrowed form the dojo. Its not that I don't want your gift, I just don't want anything.”
He tried to manage a smile, though he knew she would probably not understand. People take things too personally, he thought. It really did have nothing to do with Fallon, but here she was, making it about her. He was a little dissappointed. He thought she would be different. This being the case, he still didn't care. Rayik was still drawn to her. These sorts of problems always seem to work themselves out, and that is the hope that Rayik would just have to go on.

Fallon looked down at Rayik sitting on the red and white checkered picnic and sighed deeply. She didn’t want to be but she was curious. And her eyes flickered again, changing with her undulating moods.
It was a fast move, one that she wasn’t sure she would be able to pull off, but she dropped the duffel and forced her face to take on a new mask... This one to belie her intentions. The dropping of the duffel was to look like a slip, an accident. When she bent down to retrieve it, Fallon managed to make a quick snowball before standing up. With a look of exasperation, she tried to continue the conversation without smiling and revealing herself.
“Why don’t you want to own things, Rayik?”
When he opened his mouth to speak or moved any muscle at all, Fallon let the snowball fly while aiming for the chest. Before she could catch his expression, she dropped her duffel again and busily made up another snowball.
“Give it to who you want then, jerk-face,” she said teasingly before throwing the next snowball. “But now that you’re getting rid of my gift, one that I worked hard to get you, you’re my target practice!”
Laughing now, she ran from him. Hoping to gain some ground, Fallon went behind a tree and got up another two snowballs before peeking around the truck to see where Rayik stood.

He stood there stunned, with a snowball in his chest. It was going to take everything he had to keep up with this girl. Not physically, but mentally and emotionally. He already felt a little worn out. Seeing her dart off, he smirked, luckily there were a few things about himself he had not yet revealed. He reached down, taking his time and made a snowball carefully. This part would be a little tricky. He saw her take cover behind the tree and quickly visualized in his mind a little mantra. There is only one way to beat her. There is only one way to beat her. It wasn't true, but if he could convince himself of it...
He saw her turn from the cover of the tree to look at him, but as soon as she did...
Pffffff.
In a slight cloud of smoke he was gone, and now stand three feet in front of her. With her head still turned away from him he chuckled and tossed the snowball lightly, hitting her in the back of the head, not hard, but hard enough to feel it. Rayik took this time to revel in her confusion as he just stood there.

Fallon was shocked when the wet stuff hit her in the back of her head. She was happy though, that she had her hood up and none of it slid down her neck. It would be way to cold for that. But... How could he have gotten that shot in? He must have a good...
Yeah, she peeked and was paralyzed at the sight she saw. The man had great running speed! Hell, he didn’t even leave footprints in the snow because behind him were only hers. Wow, he really could run fast.
Before she gave herself too much time to think about it, Fallon threw one snowball and then the other. This time aiming for the face. If she could blind him with snow, she might have a chance to not become a little snow fae.
Turning fast, she rushed behind another tree and closed her eyes. She needed to concentrate. She just needed to concentrate. She knew she could do this. All she had to do was think about flying up in the air and she could land on the tree branch.
~I can fly. I can fly. I can fly.~
Before she could open her eyes, Fallon felt the air whistling past her face and something hard wrapped around her waist. She was flying! Immensely pleased with herself, she opened her eyes and then gasped.
She hadn’t flown up into the tree. The tree had lifted her and now had a branch wrapped around her waist. And then, the concentration was lost and the tree no longer moved. She was effectively trapped in an evergreen, with no way down. Hell, she didn’t even have any snowballs!
She thought about calling out to Rayik but kept her mind about her. If she called out to him, there was a chance that someone else would find her. And a great chance that if there was someone else that found her, they would be human. But, she didn’t think there were any humans around. She hadn’t seen anyone in the park at all...

After wiping the snow from his eyes he looked up to block or dodge another attack, but there wasn't one. Not only was there no attack, but there was no attacker. Rayik's first thought was, shit, she can teleport too, and now she's mocking me. He quickly ruled that out, because he had never met anyone else who could teleport.
Maybe she's invisible...
He liked that theory so he began throwing snow powder all around him to try and give her an outline. The thought slipped past that he looked really stupid right now if she wasn't invisible. After no success with this plan he paused and thought about his situation and how much time she would have had to do something. He felt like he was missing something. Rayik knew she could cast magic, but what could she have cast? He began letting his eyes wander around the scenary. Maybe she flew, he thought as he began to look up. Maybe she...his gaze met the tree....got herself stuck in a tree? He couldn't help but laugh as he looked up at her, wrapped in the limb of the tree.
“Things not go according to plan?” he asked with a familiar air of sarcasm in his voice.

Fallon was disheartened for a moment, her face pulling down in the cutest of frowns. Then, her mind turned to imagine how she must look from his angle: A little redheaded Eskimo girl stuck in a tree, her body sufficiently locked in a wooden vice grip; with her chest too big to slide down and her hips too wide to wiggle her way up. It was then that she let out a huge laugh.
“Thing don’t ever go according to plan,” she whined then. “I really suck at this stuff.”
Kicking her legs, Fallon giggled. “I must look like a sight to see. But my other plans for the day are going to be ruined if I have to live up here until the end of my days. The tree will grow and squish me to death! You know,” she said meaningfully, “someone will come looking for me after a while. So if you are going to use me as target practice, you better get your snowball fix while you can. Either that or you could help me down.”

Rayik gave her a helpful smile and began climbing the tree nimbly. He pulled his weight up, and flipped his foot up to catch the branch above him. He got closer to her, close enough to cut her free.
“So...should I let you fall, carry you down, or watch you try and fly again?” he asked her, feeling quite clever as he drew his sharp blade.
He angled himself better to cut away some of the limbs holding her up, but saved the last one to wait for her response. He kind of liked her bound like this, but he would just have to keep that little tidbit of information to himself for a while.

Fallon kicked her legs some more and tried to wiggle her way down out of the binding hold of the tree. When that didn’t work, she tried to pull herself up with her arms but her hips just were a hair too wide and she was afraid to do too much more or she may end up with ripped clothing if not skin.
With a huff, she rolled her eyes and shook her head. “I don’t want your help if you’re going to make fun of me, Rayik. And just because I can fly doesn’t mean that I can always fly. So either let me out of this wooden trap or take advantage of my helplessness.” While the rest of her speech came out as admonishment, the last sentence came more as a flirt. Hell, she figured she may as well take advantage of the time she had there.
